“Nobody phrases it this way, but I think that artificial intelligence is almost a humanities discipline. It’s really an attempt to understand human intelligence and human cognition.” — Sebastian Thrun

Using generative AI to map our knowledge of science and use structural similarities to uncover new possibilities has incredible potential. Read about powerful advances in the field below.

Much of my work is with boards and executive teams, both in the implications of AI on the future of work, and in enhancing executive capabilities and decision-making. An overview document provides details of 6 specific workshops including content, outcomes, and examples. Let me know if you have any questions or comments.

🧠Executive and board workshops on AI

Much of my current work is with boards and executive teams on the implications of AI, the future of work, and strategy in rapidly changing environments.

In this overview document I provide details of 6 in-demand workshops, including key content, outcomes, and examples.

🤸 In practice

Building Custom GPTs outside the GPT Builder

One of the very useful tools in generative AI is OpenAI’s Custom GPTs (and some of its similar competitors), which allow you to generate for yourself and others a specific use case.

However the GPT Builder which is the starting point offered by the interface offers very little control.

This guide from Lowman Harley provides practical examples of how to create useful GPTs without using the Builder.

👩🤖Humans + AI update

OpenAI and Thrive Global partner on a hyperpersonalized health coach

Sam Altman and Arianna Huffington write in Time about their new venture. “Behavior change can be a miracle drug, both for preventing disease and for optimizing the treatment of disease. Yes, behavior change is hard. But through hyper-personalization, it’s also something that AI is uniquely positioned to solve.”

Engineers of AI agents need to be artists

“Agent development pulls engineers closer to the headspace of artist - and my bet is if engineers embrace and protect their creative processes, we unlock the next level of innovation in society.”

Cognition is all you need

“Exponential intelligence is defined as a higher form of intelligence that emerges when human intelligence and cognitive AI intelligence are combined such that increasingly large and complex many-to-many collective cognitive AI processes can take place.” From the position paper of Nova Spivack’s new startup Mindcorp.

Ontological knowledge graphs for scientific discovery

A bit of a deeper dive than our usual shares but this is an exceptionally interesting paper.

“One comparison revealed structural parallels between biological materials and Beethoven's 9th Symphony, highlighting shared patterns of complexity through isomorphic mapping. In another example, the algorithm proposed a hierarchical mycelium-based composite based on integrating path sampling with principles extracted from Kandinsky's 'Composition VII' painting. The resulting material integrates an innovative set of concepts that include a balance of chaos/order, adjustable porosity, mechanical strength, and complex patterned chemical functionalization.”
